Emma Pearse

Writer, editor, teacher, traveler

Emma is an Australian writer living between NYC and east coast Australia. She writes, edits, teaches—and is available for all of it. Emma has written personal essays, culture and travel features for The New York Times, New York magazine, the Guardian, Smithsonian.com and more. She is slowly at work on her second book, which is the story of her adopted childhood and an exploration of the growing research on issues of identity and adoption. Her first book was...very different. Emma retraced the true story of an heroic Blue Heeler who survived in the Australian wild for six months in 2010. Sophie: The Incredible True Adventures of the Castaway Dog is in bookstores worldwide, from Australia and the US to Brazil, China and Italy, where the cover shows a dog in a handbag.
